The Worst 2017 Stories

13. According to Mass Live.com:

The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular is a cherished tradition in Massachusetts. Led by conductor Keith Lockhart, the Pops’ July 4 concert on the Esplanade is a chance to showcase the Boston orchestra’s world class talents to execute both American classics and contemporary tunes. A stunning fireworks display illuminates the Charles as cannon fire erupts while the orchestra plays the “1812 Overature.” It couldn’t be more American if George Washington were waving an American flag while eating apple pie.

But this year was markedly different: for the first time in a long time, the concert was not broadcast on CBS or its Boston affiliate WBZ-TV. Bloomberg TV took the reins on the Pops' concert this year, and the results were mixed - though it was clear that not everyone was pleased with the switch. Some viewers did not have Bloomberg included in their cable packages, and some of those who did found the station's coverage of the concert lackluster. Others, though, said Bloomberg's special was better than previous shows by CBS.

Despite Bloomberg's push to tell viewers about the broadcast, as well as live web-streaming, a Boston Symphony Orchestra spokesperson told the Boston Globe that viewership appears to be down nearly two million viewers from CBS's national broadcast last year.

But as a WBZ-TV Viewer I hated the switch to Bloomberg TV these people should stick to taking all things business and NOT America's Best Celebration Originated in Boston,MA.

But even though it was The Boston Pops organizers that decided to make the change last year I was still upset to this day and I hope that WBZ-TV makes a brand new deal to kept Boston's Tradition alive this year and Some viewers agreed with that.

Here is what people had to say on Twitter during the special on Tuesday night:

Marianne Kuzujanakis: @MarianneKuz

Only the majority 10/9 including myself will agreed that last years BBFS coverage wasn't traditionally better than the last over 10 years since WBZ-TV Boston hosted.

So on that fuckin' note Bloomberg TV should stick to their boring programs instead.

I give the Boston Pops 100% only for their performance, but the Bloomberg TV Asshats get 0.0% for taking over tradition.

The worst part that is..... they're not even local their Headquarters are originated in New York City!!!!!!

Look I'm ok that these women are standing for whatever it is that "they" believe.

But without actual significant video and picture evidence, there's no reason to keep that controversy alive, and that is something that seriously needs to be fixed on The Annoying Adventures Of Sexaul Accusations,Assault, Allegations.

And because of these poor women who got targeted.

If they actually step up to the plate back then before the 21st century....

We as Americans wouldn't be in this ugly asinine mess.

And don't talk to your boss and The News Media without actually showing real proof of evidence. But if you can't do that then.......

PLEASE FIX YOUR PROBLEMS IN PRIVATE NOT IN PUBLIC!!!!

PewDiePie a.k.a Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg (According To Wikipedia)

Throughout his time on YouTube, PewDiePie has produced content that has been praised as genuine and unfiltered, but also been received as abrasive, and in some cases, met with controversy. As a result of an early 2017 controversy regarding allegations of anti-Semitism in several of PewDiePie's videos, the Disney-operated Maker Studios ended their partnership with him, dropping him from their network. While he criticised the coverage of the situation and defended his content as jokes that were taken out of context, he conceded its offensiveness.

17. Jackass YouTuber Jake Paul!!!!!

On July 22, 2017, during the middle of filming the second season of Bizaardvark, the Disney Channel announced that Paul would be leaving the series, saying in a statement "We've mutually agreed that Jake Paul will leave his role on the Disney Channel series 'Bizaardvark'. On behalf of the production company, the cast and crew, we thank Jake for his good work on the TV series for the past 18 months and extend our best wishes to him."

The announcement followed a KTLA 5 news report about public complaints from Paul's neighbors regarding the noise generated by Paul's pranks, parties, fire hazards and the large crowds of Paul's fans congregating in their neighborhood. Paul later confirmed the news on his Twitter page, saying he would now focus more on his personal brand, his YouTube channel, his business ventures, and more adult acting roles. Paul later revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he was actually fired from Bizaardvark by Disney who wanted to expedite the process of weaning him off the show due to the KTLA segment.

On July 18, 2017, it was reported that Paul's neighbors in the Beverly Grove neighborhood of Los Angeles were meeting with city council members and police officials regarding whether to file a class-action public nuisance lawsuit against Paul.

This came after Paul made his home address public, leading crowds of fans to gather outside Paul's residence, and noise complaints by neighbors.

And according to sources everywhere Emilio and Ivan Martinez uploaded a YouTube Video stating that they were bullied by Jake Paul so they're no longer with Team 10.

So Jake Paul probably really should disband Team 10, because he gets a 0% for every BS he just HAD to offer.

19. Gloucester,MA Waste Money To Build NEW YMCA Building

Take a look at that 2013 post from GDT.

  • Bruce Tobey

  • Sep 4, 2013

Armed with a trusted camera, I recently took a solitary self-guided tour of Fuller School.

It was easy to do. The school’s wide-open main entrance doors offered me their silent invitation, and I was led by robust memories of the many visits I paid to the vibrant elementary school once housed there during my nine years as mayor and my 11 on School Committee.

Did I see the seething pit of decay unfit for human habitation or use that our local government insists Fuller School is? No, I saw no such thing. And those who seek to portray Fuller that way through a handful of cherry-picked images tucked into a consultant’s PowerPoint presentation serve our city poorly.

I urge you all to view some of the dozens of photos from my visit to Fuller School that accompany today’s on-line version of this column at gloucestertimes.com so you can see for yourself what I saw.

Pass your own judgment on the building’s condition. Here is what I think you will conclude:

The classrooms are large, bright and spacious, though in need of TLC, cleaning and the restoration of some fixtures removed by city workers since the closing of the school; in a small handful of classrooms, floor tiles damaged by sink leaks need replacing.

Ceilings in classrooms are almost completely intact and largely free from leaks, with the significant exception of a hallway leak near the auditorium entrance arising from poorly sealed exterior door frames and a leaking interior drainage line.

The main gymnasium is in pristine condition and should well be the envy of any fitness center or YMCA.

With a good cleaning, the cafeteria is in fine order and ready to be reopened to serve students again.

The integrity of the translucent atrium roof is absolute – it is undamaged and intact.

A building alleged to be a hazard continues to serve one of our most vital functions, housing our emergency management operations and all its critical equipment.

The two monuments to those to whom the building is dedicated — a painting of the late Milton Fuller, a much-loved Gloucester educator who helped mold the minds of generations of Gloucester students, and a plaque dedicating the building to the memory of “Cape Ann young men who gave their lives in the Vietnam conflict” — stand a dishonored silent watch over a building their city daily defiles.

It is little less than utter madness, driven by a bull-headed administrative stubbornness that heeds neither fact nor public opinion.

Can we call the renewed urgency to build a combined police-fire facility on Fuller School’s “former” Charlie Thomas Field (another memorial to a local legend casually kicked to the curb), a notion founded in popular chatter rather than serious study, what it really is — another poisoned pill meant to hasten the demise of even short-term elementary school re-use for the facility?

At a recent City Council meeting, I was stunned to hear a colleague describe Fuller School, assessed as a $17 million community asset, as a ‘tear-down” with no remaining value.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Only someone intoxicated by the false propaganda of a blatant disinformation campaign could think otherwise.

Don’t misunderstand me – I understand that the long-neglected Fuller School has its issues. So do the steadily crumbling modular units that keep our current configuration of elementary schools afloat.

For that matter, so does every city building, yet few are in as good a condition as Fuller despite the apparent efforts of some to lay it waste. If something like a skittishly operating boiler constituted a death sentence for a city-owned building, City Hall and half of our elementary schools would have been boarded up years ago. Clearly, that hasn’t happened.

Some would say: “Don’t worry; if we sell Fuller School at auction, we have to get its full valuation.” That statement is both wrong and shockingly naïve. The law allows public bids for the disposition of a municipal building to be restricted to closely-specified and limited uses that can dramatically reduce the value of the asset.

For five years, Gloucester’s students and taxpayers have been cheated of the value of the $17 million school. It need not continue. Don’t take my word for it – look at the pictures, and I think you’ll agree: it needs to stop, now. Allowing the neglect to continue is intolerable. Anyone in our local elected government who would continue on that path of neglect and waste, by action or inaction, silence or speech, needs to be held accountable.

Now hear this from The Boston Globe from nearly 2 years ago:

By David Rattigan

GLOBE CORRESPONDENT

FEBRUARY 25, 2016

Fuller Mixed Use Ventures LLC’s proposal to purchase the former Fuller School has been accepted by the city of Gloucester. The company – a partnership of Windover Construction, Sam Park & Co., the Dolben Co., and the YMCA of the North Shore — purchased the 10.6-acre parcel on Route 128 for $5.1 million, part of a $60 million mixed-used development that will include 170 rental housing units, 80,000 square feet of retail space, and a new Cape Ann YMCA building. According to a statement from the city, the deal includes a contribution of $500,000 for affordable housing. It will bring additional annual tax revenue and 200 permanent new jobs to the city.

Now hear this from Wicked Gloucester:

Mar 10, 2016

With a key step taken in the development of the Fuller site, all of the parties involved are looking forward to a changes to the former school that include a new site for the Cape Ann YMCA, 170 affordable housing units, new retail space and the possibility of 200 new jobs.

At the end of February, Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken announced that her administration had accepted a $50 million private investment proposal from Fuller Mixed Use Ventures LLC for the site. The group is made up of the YMCA of the North Shore, Sam Park & Company, Windover Construction and The Dolben Company, Inc.

The proposal includes plans for an expanded YMCA, 170 housing units, and additional retail space -- over 80,000 square feet -- that will tie into the neighboring Gloucester Crossing.

As part of the project, a contribution of $500,000 will be made to Gloucester’s affordable housing trust, and will be used to further support funding for affordable housing in the city.

Applying for permits

Next steps for the project include drafting a purchase and sale agreement, followed by the project going before the Gloucester City Council for permitting.

“In some sense, I think it’s a perfect blend of uses,” says Sam Park, president of Sam Park & Company. “We’re a mixed use development company, and we saw the value of that since day one.”

Park was the developer for Gloucester Crossing, the shopping plaza located next to the Fuller property.

“We look at this as being a transformational project,” says Cape Ann YMCA Executive Director Tim Flaherty. “It will help strengthen the community with new programs, new jobs and tax dollars.”

The project would provide the Cape Ann YMCA with expanded facilities and programming, along with more space: The current location for the YMCA on Middle Street provides programming for 4,500 members in 44,000 square feet of space.

Parking has traditionally been a problem as well, with no dedicated parking for Y members, who are then forced to compete with other businesses and interests for metered spots in downtown Gloucester.

Park uses the word “synergy” to describe how the different partners involved in Fuller Mixed Use Ventures can benefit from each other’s presence.

“We like the idea of having some housing there, and having the YMCA anchoring the next phase of retail,” explains Park. “That’s a very good thing. People don’t just go to the mall today for shopping. They are also going to gyms, health clubs and community centers.”

Growth for YMCA

The Fuller FMUV project would provide the YMCA something in the range of 65,000-75,000 square feet, an improved parking situation and a more accessible location for all of Cape Ann just off of the Route 128 extension.

“We have about 4,500 members now and we are hoping to increase that,” explains Flaherty, Executive Director for the Cape Ann YMCA. “Because of the space or the parking, the people who go out of town right now, we are hoping they will be coming back to utilize the Y.”

More space for the YMCA means the potential for expanded programs and facilities, much of which would be determined after the non-profit organization works on a needs assessment with the community.

“We need to determine what the community needs are,” explains Flaherty. “It also depends on how much money we can raise in the community; that will dictate what we can build up there.”

While the retail portion of the project may not be as expansive as what the Cape Ann YMCA is facing, it should work in conjunction with what is already in place at Gloucester Crossing to help draw in more retailers to the site.

Park considers this to be “phase two” of work done on Gloucester Crossing. The mixed-use project served as a catalyst for the second round of work on the retail space.

“It’s not as if we’re building a huge retail expansion to Gloucester Crossing,” explains Park. “It will probably comprise about a third more retail space than we have today; but it will give us critical mass that makes the whole center work better. More importantly, it gives us the momentum we kind of need to do it.”

The City Of Gloucester is just wasting and wasting and wasting their own budget. They should ONLY use that budget to improve the school and NOT tear it down!!!!

I know alot of friends from O'Maley Middle School at the time, Camp Spindrift, and GHS, who absolutely have tides to that school and it's historic significance!!!!

They would be, extremely disappointed because Gloucester didn't use their budget to IMPROVE all the bumpy streets in the city. The Y just borrowed that property for their weekly after school program.

But doesn't mean The Y will own that property. Mr Fuller owns it fair and square. Whatever the new mayor of one year ago did was NOT the Gloucester Way. PLEASE LEAVE HISTORY AS IS!!!!!!

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| I'm giving Gloucester 0% because The Romeo Theken administration are still not focusing on improving all Gloucester streets, it's not just Washington St or Maplewood Ave that needs improvement.

20. Colin Kaepernick The Bumhole

In 2016, Kaepernick became a national figure after he began protesting what he viewed as racial injustice in the United States by not standing while the United States national anthem was being played before the start of games.

The first time Kaepernick was noticed sitting down during the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner," as opposed to the tradition of standing, was the 49ers third preseason game in 2016.

However, he sat during the anthem of their first two games despite not dressing for play.

During a post-game interview, he explained his position stating, "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder", referencing a series of events that led to the Black Lives Matter movement and adding that he would continue to protest until he feels like "[the American flag] represents what it's supposed to represent".

In the 49ers' final 2016 preseason game on September 1, 2016, Kaepernick opted to kneel during the U.S. national anthem rather than sit as he did in their previous games. He explained his decision to switch was an attempt to show more respect to former and current U.S. military members while still protesting during the anthem after having a conversation with former NFL player and U.S. military veteran Nate Boyer. After the September 2016 police shootings of Terence Crutcher and Keith Lamont Scott, Kaepernick commented publicly on the shootings saying, "this is a perfect example of what this is about."

An NFL fan poll was taken during the beginning of the 2016 NFL season and Kaepernick was voted the most disliked player in the NFL; this poll was polarized, with 37% of Caucasians disliking him "a lot", and 42% of African-Americans liking him "a lot." A few people posted videos of them burning Kaepernick jerseys. Former NFL MVP Boomer Esiason called Kaepernick's actions "an embarrassment" while an anonymous NFL executive called Kaepernick "a traitor". The 2016 NFL season also saw a significant drop in their television ratings. Polls suggest that fans boycotting the NFL because of Kaepernick-inspired protests were a contributor to the decline in viewers. He also stated that he received death threats.

His actions prompted a wide variety of responses, including additional athletes in the NFL and other American sports leagues protesting in various ways during the anthem.

Outside of the NFL, President Donald Trump claimed that Kaepernick's situation was caused by a fear that he would use Twitter to create a public relations crisis for any team that signed him, whereas Kyle Wagner of FiveThirtyEight found that Kaepernick was unsigned because of his political opinions.

In September 2017, President Donald Trump sent out multiple tweets, in which he advocated that NFL players should be either fired or suspended if they fail to stand up for the national anthem. In response, many NFL teams and players stood together to protest against Trump's opinion. The players knelt, locked arms, or even remained in the locker room during the playing of the anthem.

In 2017, Kaepernick filed a grievance against the NFL and its owners, accusing them of colluding to not hire him.

During the 2017 NFL season, Kaepernick filed a grievance against the NFL, alleging that NFL owners colluded to keep him out of the league.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

I'm giving Kaepernick a total fatty 0% because that movement he created was super annoying and getting old. GOOD RIDDANCE!!!!!!!!!!!
